Description
What Is Kliovance?
Kliovance is a continuous combined hormone replacement therapy (HRT) tablet for postmenopausal women. Each tablet contains estradiol (oestrogen) and norethisterone acetate (a progestogen), providing daily hormone support to manage menopause symptoms and protect the womb lining.
It’s designed for women who haven’t had a period for at least 12 months and prefer a no-bleed HRT option.
What Is It Used For?
Kliovance helps to relieve menopause symptoms caused by a drop in hormone levels.
It may help to:
- – Reduce hot flushes and night sweats
- – Ease vaginal dryness or irritation
- – Improve sleep and emotional wellbeing
- – Prevent postmenopausal bone thinning (osteoporosis)
Doctors usually prescribe Kliovance to women with an intact womb who are seeking continuous daily HRT.
How Does Kliovance Work?
Kliovance delivers a low daily dose of oestrogen and progestogen to restore hormonal balance after menopause.
- – The estradiol replaces lost oestrogen, helping to relieve symptoms
- – The norethisterone protects the womb lining from overstimulation by oestrogen
Taken every day without breaks, Kliovance maintains consistent hormone levels and typically avoids monthly bleeding.
How Should You Take Kliovance?
Kliovance comes in a 28-tablet strip, with one tablet to be taken daily.
Here’s how to take it:
- – Swallow one tablet each day, at roughly the same time
- – Take the tablets continuously with no breaks between strips
- – You can take them with or without food
- – If you miss a tablet and remember within 12 hours, take it straight away. If more than 12 hours pass, skip it and carry on as usual
Are There Any Side Effects?
Like all medicines, Kliovance may cause side effects, but many women tolerate it well.
Common side effects include:
- – Headache, nausea, or breast tenderness
- – Bloating, mood changes, or light vaginal bleeding
- – Rare but serious effects include blood clots, stroke, or breast cancer
Speak to your doctor if you experience any unusual bleeding, chest pain, or swelling in your legs.
What Should You Know Before Taking Kliovance?
Before starting Kliovance, check that it’s suitable for you by discussing your medical history with a doctor.
Do not take if you:
- – Have or have had breast cancer, blood clots, liver disease, or unexplained vaginal bleeding
- – Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- – Take certain other medications — always inform your doctor before starting HRT
You’ll need regular medical reviews while taking HRT to assess ongoing safety and benefits.
How Should You Store It?
Keep your tablets safe by storing them correctly.
Storage tips:
- – Store below 25°C in a dry place
- – Keep in original packaging to protect from light and moisture
- – Keep out of sight and reach of children
- – Do not use past the expiry date on the packaging
