Wegovy® Oral Tablets (Semaglutide Pill)

Weight management is one of the most talked-about areas of modern medicine — and for good reason. Obesity affects millions of adults across the UK and is linked to serious conditions including type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure. The semaglutide pill represents a significant step forward in oral weight management treatment, offering a tablet-based alternative to injectable GLP-1 therapies for people who prefer not to self-inject.

What’s the correct way to take the Wegovy pill each day?

Timing and technique genuinely matter with this tablet, more so than with most medicines. Follow these steps every morning:

  • Take it first thing in the morning on a completely empty stomach, the moment you wake.
  • Swallow the tablet whole with no more than a small sip of plain water (around 120 ml). Do not use coffee, juice, sparkling or hot water.
  • Do not crush, chew or split the tablet.
  • Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything else, or taking any other tablets or supplements.
  • Try to take it at the same time each day so it becomes a settled routine.

That 30-minute window is the single most important habit to get right. The SNAC absorption system only works properly when your stomach is empty and undiluted, so food, drink or other medicines taken too soon can substantially reduce how much semaglutide your body absorbs, or stop it working altogether. A simple trick many people use is to keep the tablet and a glass of water on the bedside table, take it before anything else, then use the 30 minutes to shower or get ready before breakfast.

What should I do if I forget a dose or am sick after taking it?

Slip-ups happen, and the rules for getting back on track safely are simple:

  • If you miss a dose, skip it entirely and carry on with your next tablet the following morning as normal.
  • Do not take the missed tablet later in the day, and never double up to compensate, as this only raises the risk of side effects without improving results.
  • If you vomit shortly after taking your tablet, do not take a replacement dose that day. Resume your usual routine the next morning.
  • If you find you are missing several doses in a row, or you are unsure how to proceed, check in with your prescriber before continuing.
